What Humanism means to me

Betty Nassaka
Chair of Ugandan Humanist Effort to Save Women (UHESWO)

Many people ask me what Humanism means. I try to use simple phrases that people can relate to to explain that to me Humanism means:

1. loving your neighbour the way you love yourself.

2. leading a good life in harmony with others.

3. helping the disadvantaged and needy.

4. leading a natural life.

5. respecting other people's rights.

6. applying science and reason to solve human challenges.

7. respecting oneself and those around you.

8. being skeptical and applying critical thinking.
